SPRING CYCLE RETURNS TO SYDNEY THIS OCTOBER

Thousands are expected to roll out for Sydney’s favourite bike ride

More than 9,000 riders from across Australia are expected to descend upon Sydney roads on Sunday, 13 October 2019 to take part in one of Australia’s most anticipated recreational cycling events, Spring Cycle 2019. Spring Cycle offers participants of all levels and ages the opportunity to cycle through Sydney streets, and take in the city’s most iconic sites; including the rare opportunity to ride across the world famous Sydney Harbour Bridge, on the main deck – traffic free.

From experienced cyclists to little ones who are just acquiring their need for speed, riders have the option to cycle one of four cycling routes as part of the event. Rider’s can take part in a 10km City Ride, 18km River Ride, 50km Classic Ride or the 105km Challenge Ride.

Regional Director at Ironman, Sarah Young said: “The range of participants astounds us each year, it is simply inspiring. Spring Cycle is the ultimate cycling event that caters for every age and ability. Now in its 36th year, we are looking forward to welcoming all riders, local and visitors, to tackle the four different courses across Sydney’s most iconic routes.”

Bicycle NSW founded the event in 1983, as an initiative to encourage more people to cycle. Chief Executive Officer at Bicycle NSW, Alistair Ferguson commented: “Spring Cycle was organised 36 years ago to encourage bike riding, and I am thrilled to say that our message has been heard. The growth of the event year on year is indicative that more and more people are enjoying life on a bike. We strive to create an unforgettable experience for our participants, to ensure that the people of Sydney and beyond, continue to hop on their bikes and explore this beautiful city.”

This year’s event will again fundraise for Freedom Wheels where every $1000 raised can help a child get out of their wheelchair and onto their custom-made Freedom Wheels bike. Spring Cycle participants can give children living with a disability the opportunity to ride their own bikes by visiting https://springcycle.com.au/fundraising/
