For your safety.
To ensure that you and your fellow riders on the 10km City Ride and 50km Classic Ride have an enjoyable and safe 2025 Spring Cycle, please adopt safe, courteous riding at all times by following these basic principles:
- Obey instructions by police, traffic controllers, and event staff, particularly if you fall behind the cut off time
- Start within your event’s allocated time and follow route signage
- Always wear your Australian Standards helmet with the strap done up and snug under your chin
- There is to be no stopping on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Cahill Expressway at any time. This includes to take photos
- Riders will be sharing the road with LIVE traffic from Pyrmont to Olympic Park, so please act accordingly and be mindful of motorists!
- Classic Riders must obey traffic rules particularly when approaching Red Lights, Stop Signs and Give Way Signs.
- Give hand signals and communicate when turning or stopping
- Watch your speed, especially downhill! It’s not a race – it’s a community bike ride
- Respect the property of the event, public spaces and other people
- You will need to approach some sections of the route slowly to account for turns, motorists, pedestrians and descents
- Remember to thank the friendly volunteers you pass along the way and look out for your fellow cyclists
- Be familiar with bike laws https://bicyclensw.org.au/lets-ride/info/nsw-bicycle-laws/
Please note: Under normal traffic conditions it is illegal for bicycles to ride on the lanes of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Cahill Expressway and the Western Distributor – penalties apply. Cycleways are on the western side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge (from Milsons Point to The Rocks) and the eastern side of Cockle Bay (from King Street to Pyrmont Bridge).
Cycling Etiquette
- Be courteous and give way to pedestrians and other shared path users
- Communicate your movements with others using hand signals, ringing the bell, and verbal messages
- Move off the path if you need to stop
- Keep left
- Stop at red traffic lights and pedestrian crossings
- When mixing with traffic, let Spring Cycle marshals guide you
- Avoid riding in driver’s blind spots. If you cannot see the driver, the driver cannot see you
- Never ride more than two abreast
- If riding uphill in a group, be considerate of other road users and ride in single file
- Wear bright clothing so you are easily visible
- Avoid using your mobile phone and headphones. Stay focused!
- Indicate hazards to other riders
- Use bicycle lanes where available
Other things to keep in mind.
Keep up and Keep Pedalling.
While we encourage you to have a break at the Rest Stops and soak up the amazing scenes of Sydney and local atmosphere, please remember that the route and rest stops for the Spring Cycle will only remain open for specific time durations. After this time, the route and roads will be progressively returned to regular road conditions. Please follow instructions of any official event personnel when you are asked to move along the route.
Can't Make the Distance?
It should be noted that if you are unable to meet the route closure times or need to depart the designated event route at any time, you do so as a solo, unaccompanied cyclist under regular road conditions without any event support. Should this occur, you are no longer a participant in the event and we ask that you remove your official Rider Number.
We do provide a Sweep Bus with bike trailer for those who are unable to keep up or pedal to the finish. The Sweep Bus will drop you and your bicycle to the nearest rest stop, finish site or train station so that you can make independent transport arrangements back home or to the finish line.
